Updated 6/May/2009. After many requests from customers for a decent Australian made square, I have finally done something about it. 4", 7" and 10" stainless blades with solid brass bodies.
First viewed publicly at the Brisbane wood show in May 2008 they received an amazing response in both orders and general reception. Available with a 4", 7" and 10" stainless steel blade, similar to the range of bevels. They have a unique support tab in the stock to hold the square's own weight on the edge of a board. This tab snaps out of the way with a light touch when needed.
This photo show the support tabs at work. The square on the bottom is taking a reading around the end of a board. The square on top of the 2" thick board is holding itself up for a reading across the width of the board.
They are still in the stage of development so I have not been able to set pricing on them yet.
The first production run is in progress. After promising deadlines and pushing them back every time I have given up setting a date of realease. The delay is causing me anxiety but I am not prepared to let tools out of the Vesper Tools workshop until they are right.
The latest development involved an 11th hour re-design of the support tab. The old design would have worked, but it has been refined to something that works just beautifully. The secret being in the spring that provides the 'snap' motion to hold the tab either out, or in. They feel like a Swiss watch movement now! See the article about the endurance test of the mechanism. 500,000 cycles, easy.
They are not available in the shopping system on the website yet but please contact us to place a place an order for one out of the first release.
